Professor Wayne Renke teaches evidence, intellectual property law, criminal law and jurisprudence. Wayne was in private practice for several years before joining the Faculty in 1993. He was the 2001 Tevie Miller Teaching Excellence Award recipient. His publications have concerned the disclosure of records in sexual assault cases, the mandatory reporting of child abuse, judicial independence, dangerous offenders and the commercialization of university research. His current research concerns the use of force in self-defense and law enforcement situations; the nature of consent and evidence of consent in sexual assault cases; the impact of information technology on employees' privacy; intellectual property and ¨distance education¨; and the ambit of solicitor/client privilege. Wayne is Past President of the Association of Academic Staff of the University, a member of the Academic Freedom & Tenure Committee of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and an Executive member of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association. In 2000 Wayne was seconded half-time as Special Advisor to the Vice-President (Academic) and Provost of the University.
